Distribution of soil pressures on concrete pipe
Soil pressures on 24-in. OD concrete pipe buried in 6×7×7 ft steel soil container were measured with 16 pressure cells mounted in pipe; loads were applied to soil surface with large Universal testing machine; graphical representations of soil pressure distributions are given for six different support conditions and several conclusions are drawn regarding support conditions that produce most desirable pressure distributions; pressure distributions for six specific bedding conditions represent range of conditions that will be useful to develop analytical pressure distributions for field bedding conditions.
