New Austrian method of tunnel construction
Short sections of tunnel roof and side walls are stabilized immediately by grouting all cracks and by lining rock surface with about 20-cm thick sprayed concrete shell, which is reinforced by spot welded fabric and round-steel latticed arches fixed to rock by means of Perfo or S.N. anchors; tunnel bottom is then excavated and bottom arch is concreted; tunnel cross section forms closed shell extremely resistant to roof- and side pressures; analysis of bending moments; calculation of ultimate load.
