Pipe jacking technique adopted consists of excavation of thrust pit steel shield driven into face, concrete tube section butted on to shield, soil excavated from within shield and pipe and shield driven forward by hydraulic rams acting on rear edge of concrete section; pipes used are doubly reinforced concrete sections 10 ft 3 in. ID and 5 ft long with 9 in. wall thickness; outside guard joints bed on two rings of hemp and water seal is achieved by using Cornelius rubber ring system.
