Brittle fracture of steel -- Performance of ND1B and SAA Al structural steels
Tests carried out at University of Queensland, Australia, on samples of steels used for two welded bridges of comparable size being fabricated in Brisbane; steels were ND1 B notch ductile steel to BS 2762 and structural steel to SAA A1; results showed that performance of second steel was inferior; brittle fracture problem at fundamental level is discussed.
