Flow in chute spillway at Fort Randall Dam -- Hydraulic prototype tests
Tests were conducted in summers of 1960 and 1962 on chute spillway of Fort Randall Dam to investigate characteristics of supercritical flow and provide data for use in future design work; measurements were made at mean flow depths from 1.5 to 3.4 ft with average velocities from about 27 to 47 fps; this gave Reynolds numbers from about 1.3×107 to 6.4×107 and Froude numbers from 3.9 to 4.5; two specially built pitot piers were installed in spillway chute to measure vertical velocity distributions; depths of flows along chute were measured by noting when wave crests struck weights hung on wires.
