Quaternary marine clays have lower capacity to absorb water after silt contained in original interstitial solution was leached out by fresh water under continental conditions; this phenomenon results in water content exceeding by 8 to 10% limit of flowage; method of making excavations and construction of foundations under specific conditions, and control of landslides created by water saturated clay deposits.
