Effects of stress system variables on undrained shear behavior of saturated clays; system variables refer to direction and relative magnitude of three principal stresses during consolidation and during shear; report reviews and analyzes previous work in area and presents results of extensive series of consolidated-undrained triaxial tests with pore pressure measurements on normally consolidated Boston blue clay prepared from dilute slurry; effects on undrained shear behavior of anisotropic consolidation, perfect sampling, intermediate principal stress, and rotation of principal planes during shear are considered.
