Light-transmitting and light-scattering properties of smoke
Study was made of light-transmitting and light-scattering properties of smoke to investigate methods of measuring smoke density; it was found that Beer-Lambert law applies to smoke, but that light-scattering theories may not apply well because of complexity of equations for polydisperse systems of smoke; literature survey on light transmission and light scattering in smoke systems; in preliminary experimental work apparatus was devised and certain optical measurements were made on ammonium chloride smoke.
