Chew stoke reservoir: notes on design of reservoir
Reservoir to impound River Chew, England, has catchment of 14,200 acres; water area will be 1170 acres; capacity of 4,500,000,000 gal can balance runoff in three dry years; data on geological conditions; dam is earth structure, 40 ft high, with 5-ft wide concrete cutoff; dam which rests on silty clay up to 18 ft in depth, required improvement of stability by studding area of silt with sand wells of 10 in. in diam; provision for flood discharge. (See also Instn Mun Engrs -- J v 78 n 9 Mar 1952 p 555-58)
