Calculation of horizontally loaded piles
Some methods are reviewed, all of them proceeding from differential equation of deflection line which are solved for simple bedding conditions by means of integration, load-deformation characteristic of soil being assumed as linear-elastic; computerized method suggested by author allows consideration of nonlinear-elastic soil characteristic, and considerations of arbitrary distribution of pile bedding along depth, shear deformation of soil, and variations in pile length and flexural stiffness; predictions and results of tests were in good agreement.
