Ultimate bearing capacity of pipe piles in sand
Model tests on single open-end pipe piles with varying diameter in loose sand were carried out, and their ultimate bearing capacity was compared with that of closed-end piles; two bearing capacities were found to be about the same; changes in sand properties due to pile penetration were studied inside and outside piles; results, confirmed by full-scale tests, are analyzed by extended theory of foundation bearing capacity.
