New construction principle for prestressed concrete pressure vessels
Vessel wall consists of four independent layers; inner thermal and radiation shield is made of highly heat resistant heavy concrete of high hydrogen content, with magnetite and serpentine additives; next is heat insulating layer made of ceramic material; these two layers are embedded between two gas- and water-tight concentric steel sheet cylinders; third layer in form of pressurized water jacket is filled with mineral-free water held at same pressure as that of core cooling medium by means of automatic two-chamber pressure compensator, and is provided with system of cooling tubes; these three layers allow thick prestressed concrete external casing to be kept at low temperature.
