Monterey Park reservoir introduces new method of prestressing concrete
28 ft 6 in. high, 90 ft diam reinforced concrete reservoir for 1 million gal capacity in Monterey Park, Calif, was built of prestressed gunite by use of rods in which predetermined stress was obtained with calibrated hinged lever; 1-in. round prestressing rods, outside structural wall gunite, are covered with protective gunite coating 1 1/2 in. thick; work procedure described and illustrated.
