Sharavathi hydro electric project
First unit of project was commissioned during January 1965; scheme consists of two storage reservoirs, one across river Sharavathi at Linganamakki and other across Talakalale stream by putting up stone masonry dams; composite dam at Linganamakki is key structure of hydroelectric plant; dam has total length of 7820 ft; construction and operation of water conductor system, low pressure tunnels terminating in 2 surge tanks and power plant are described; plant when all units installed will have ten units of 89,100 kW each; in second stage additional six units of same capacity will be installed; work of second stage is hoped to be completed by 1968.
