Storage of liquefied natural gas
Problems in selection of materials and in design and construction of containers to store gas as liquid; three types of storage containers acceptable to industry are -- aboveground double-walled tank, constructed with inner tank of stainless steel, aluminum, or 9% nickel steel, annular space which is filled with insulation, and outer tank of carbon steel; cryogenic inground storage tank consists of pit excavated in prefrozen soil and/or rock with roof of either 9% nickel steel or prestressed concrete, and third type is prestressed concrete tank which may be constructed above or below ground; construction and behavior of tank components at cryogenic temperatures.
