Turbulent helical flow in annulus
Theoretical model of three-dimensional turbulent helical flow in annulus was developed based on concept of normalized eddy viscosity tensor; experimental results for axial resistance in smooth annulus without Taylor type vortices are found to be in good agreement with theoretical predictions; it was found experimentally that there is noticeable increase in axial resistance associated with transition from turbulent flow without vortices to turbulent flow with vortices; measurements of torque made with specially designed instrument were found, in case with no axial flow, to be in agreement with results of previous investigations; measurements of torque with axial flow indicate that addition of axial flow causes reduction in torque.
