Inland delta building activity of Kosi river
Movement of river, approximately 70 mi in 230 yr, could be explained by understanding of phenomenon of inland delta building activity of Kosi; rate of building of conical delta and of westward movement of river, estimated by using this approach, agree well with observed rates; to provide relief to areas affected by river, Kosi project consisting of 150 mi of flood embankments, construction of barrage, provision of irrigation of 2,600,000 acres and power generation of approximately 20,000 kw, has been completed; prediction of future trends of river regime is attempted and precautionary measures for safety of project works are indicated.
