Experts' report on failure of Malpasset dam
Results of official investigation of dam failure which occurred in 1959; seismic disturbances, sabotage, blasting during highway construction, influence of auxiliary devices in dam, and execution of concrete work were investigated as possible causes of failure; dam design was rechecked and stress-strain studies were made on models; finally, geology and characteristics of foundation ground were examined in geophysical study; three hypotheses are advanced as to failure mechanism.
