Effects of bends in concrete reinforcement
Investigation of effect of stress concentrations set up in concrete near bends in reinforcing bars; study was conducted to determine minimum diameter-of-bend to be recommended in reinforced-concrete structures; 28 specimens were tested, each specimen being in form of reinforced-concrete 90° knee-frame; concrete strength was usually in excess of 3500 psi; each specimen was reinforced with two reinforcing bars, and provision was made to measure displacement of bent portion of bar as specimen was loaded and concrete near bend commenced to crush.
