New German prestressing system
Practical new post-tensioning system, developed by German contractor, is based on use of flat, ribbed oval wires; system is known by initials KA for "klemmverankerung" ("clamp anchorage") and uses wires of maximum 11 by 4.5 mm; main advantages of system lie in easier anchorage and handling; oval shape means that wires always have least stiffness in direction tendon must bend so that they can be made to "layer" and follow desired path with minimum difficulty; pipe-type spacers are used to restrain wires at intermediate points and changes in tendon slope, within round, helically ribbed, sheetmetal duct.
