Philadelphia Gas Works in cooperation with A C.Miller Co, developed sectionalized, reinforced concrete manhole consisting of floor, wall sections and roof; headroom within manhole is obtained by adding wall sections which are interlocked by tongue and groove joint and are sealed with commercial sealing compound; complete precast installations -- from hole-digging to finish -- were made in about one day as compared to 4 days with poured-in-place concrete method; use of precast design has reduced construction costs by 50%.
