Fundamentals underlying shrinkage in concrete -- Review
Review of publications on current state of knowledge with regard to principles which govern shrinkage phenomenon in concrete; tobermorite is principal product of hydrated portland cements, and it is generally major source of drying shrinkage in hardened concrete; explanation of drying shrinkage is based on crystallographic structure of tobermorite, nature of water associated with tobermorite, and volume changes corresponding to changes in associated water; influence of cement composition, aggregate content, mix proportion, and curing conditions is also discussed.
