Tendency is to build larger and larger prestressed concrete tanks; construction of 15-mg tanks of 320 ft diam; in preload type tank, uniformly stressed circumferential prestressing is so designed and placed that no circumferential tensile stresses are created when tank is full; use of rubber pad at base of wall and under dome ring of dome roofed tanks as means of improvement; walls for preload tanks are built of pneumatic mortar when walls are less than 6 in. thick, and of concrete when they are thicker.
