Plastics offer tremendous potential for building industry especially in field of prefabricated stressed-skin elements; description of some of most important domes, barrel vaults, hyperbolic paraboloids and double-layer cellular structures built in plastics in various countries; reference is also made to air-supported plastics structures; plastics are radically transforming manufacturing techniques used in building and are beginning to influence design of modern buildings to considerable extent.
