Cantilevers stretch across Dutch Estuary
Three mile prestressed concrete bridge across East Scheldt estuary consists of long box-girder cantilevers spanning between A-shaped piers supported by deep post-tensioned caissons, three-lane bridge has 52 spans that are 312 ft long and double leaf bascule that reaches 131 ft across main channel at maximum clearance of nearly 100 ft; girder tapers from depth of 19 ft over piers to about 7 ft at midspan; trapezoidal in section, flairing from 22 ft at bottom to 24 ft at top, with top flange cantilevered to form 39-ft wide deck.
