Improved quality, mechanical characteristics, and dimensional accuracy of modern brick opens new perspectives for its application to multistoried buildings; examples of determination of load carrying capacity of brick wall are presented, and empirical formulas for calculation of admissible stresses are given; report of most notable results of brickwork tests performed in Switzerland to establish new standards for brickwork.
