Effect of weathering upon rate of absorption; rate of absorption of water by bricks standing in 1/4 in. depth of water was measured before and after weathering; five makes of clay brick of fairly open texture and two of sand-lime brick were examined after periods up to 2 yr; two makes of clay brick and one sand-lime survived frosts of 28 winters and were re-examined after almost 29 yr; accumulation of dirt and vegetation on surfaces of bricks caused large but variable decreases in rate of absorption; changes in total absorption were small with particular bricks investigated.
