Experimental study on floating breakwaters
Two layered raft-type floating breakwater is excellent for wave damping, but effect of pontoon type is also desirable if floating body is so designed that its natural oscillation period is longer than that of design waves; moreover, pontoon type floating breakwater may be also used as floating pier; study of stresses on anchor chain induced by wave action shows that both pontoon type and two-layer raft type are applicable for incident waves 2.5 to 3.0 m high and most suitable length of anchor chain is four times water depth.
