Lateral buckling of concrete beams lifted by cables
Versatile numerical procedure for determining elastic buckling loads of slender beams loaded in vertical plane; procedure, which takes into account different loading and support conditions and simultaneously handles lateral bending and torsion, is then used to study self-weight buckling of long beams during lifting; two series of tests on beams supported by cables are reported; in first series, six tests were carried out on aluminum I-extrusion with various support conditions; in second series, eight small post-tensioned concrete beams were tested; design procedure is indicated for application to prestressed concrete beams.
