Four types of experiments performed were scraping, peeling proper joints, displacing asphalt from stone surfaces by water, and displacing water by asphalt; Venezuelan asphalt of Penetration Grade 85 to 100 was used; minimum temperature of application of asphalt to stone slabs needed for obtaining proper joints can be determined by simple scraping test which gives information also on surface roughness of stone; peeling proper joints of type aluminum-ribbon-asphalt-stone plate proceeds in agreement with rheological theory of adhesion; displacement of asphalt from stone by water could not be measured but rate of displacement of water by asphalt was determined at 3 and 25 C.
