Subgrade stabilization with Portland cement and hydrated lime under modified T11 landing mat
In connection with field operational test of modified T11 aluminum landing mat at England Air Force Base, sections of low-strength subgrade (4 to 7 CBR) were treated with portland cement and hydrated lime during inclement weather; sections about 100 ft long were constructed as part of 48-ft-wide parallel taxiway in which subgrade to be covered by landing mat was treated to depth of 6 in. with 3% portland cement applied by admixing, and 3% hydrated lime applied to one section by admixing and to another section by placing alternate layers of lime and soil without mixing; 200-ft-long section also was constructed using polyethylene sheeting as protective membrane under landing mat.
