Thermal stresses in reinforced concrete slabs
Experimental and theoretical investigation into stresses induced in steel and concrete in reinforced concrete slabs subjected to high temperatures and thermal gradients; observed stresses in steel are dependent on time and previous temperature cycling of slabs; main cause of loss of tensile stress in steel was attributed to increased rate of concrete shrinkage at temperatures near or above 100 C; design recommendations are given enabling final equilibrium stresses to be determined within fairly wide limits.
