Field house construction speeded by site precasting
On-site casting of roof pan sections for Dartmouth College, New Hampshire, field house; thin shell barrel arch roof, 57 ft above clear area of 219×360 ft and enclosing over 93,000 sq ft of playing and practice area consists of 1240 diamond and triangular-shaped inverted reinforced concrete pans, joined together by site-cast diagonal and longitudinal ribs which carry weight of roof down to footings; dowels projecting from precast pans provide tie to ribs, resulting in monolithic structure.
