Dam is part of Piave-Boite-Vajont group; height of dam is 872.5 ft, utilizing water head of 864 ft, top length 626 ft, base thickness 76 ft, crest thickness 9.85 ft, and concrete volume 470,000 cu yd; base and walls of narrow gorge consist of tough Dogger oolitic limestone and Liasic siliciferous limestone; holes were drilled in suspended position above precipice; underground excavation for penstock and tail race tunnels and power plant.
