Salvagers Raise Sunken Pontoons
Two 50 × 360 ft 14 ft deep pontoons, built as parts in floating bridge sank overnight alongside graving dock in Seattle, Wash; possible cause is that plugging wood blocks worked loose; costs of salvaging amounted to $750,000; using casting forms, cofferdam was built around sides of one pontoon and its buoyancy was restored by dewatering by pumping; other was lifted by winches from barges.
