Suggested design for experimental prestressed concrete pavement
Proposal for construction of prestressed concrete roads without use of steel which would consist of normal plain concrete pavement 8 in. thick or less, with gaps 2 ft wide at 1000-ft intervals where prestressing is to be applied and abutments to hold prestress at extremities; joints would be under compression at all times and would behave similar to monolithic pavement.
