Lighting of compact plan hospitals
Hospital buildings in which patient rooms are situated on outside perimeter of building, and service and ancillary rooms in core, separated by corridor, call for artificial lighting in inner areas throughout day; study was carried out to determine levels of illumination in internal rooms and corridor in relation to lighting in ward during daytime, evening and night; illumination of 30 and 40 lumens/sq ft is recommended for internal rooms in daytime, dropping to 20 lumens/sq ft in evening and night time; illumination of 20 and 25 lumens/sq ft on floor of corridor is recommended for daytime, lowered to 15 lumens/sq ft during evening and 0.5 and 1.0 lumens/sq ft at night time.
