Farahnaz Pahlavi dam
Design and construction of dam capable of storing water with surface area, at maximum retention, of about 1 1/4 sq mi as part of major development scheme which will augment potable water supplies to Teheran, improve irrigation, and generate hydroelectric power; it is shown how special techniques were developed to meet unusual conditions of site and rock formation; dam is mass concrete buttress structure with crest height of 340 ft and with length of 1470 ft; there are 22 buttresses at 46 ft centers and flanks of dam are formed by mass concrete sections; left bank of dam terminates in bored pile cut-off.
