Strains in some prestressed concrete structures
Vibrating-wire strain gages were used to measure strains before and after transfer, and subsequently at appropriate intervals; stresses at transfer, determined from measured strains, were compared with calculated values, and changes of strain with time are described and discussed in relation to current values used in design; design stresses at transfer were largely achieved in each structure; in case of office building, long-term contractions of concrete were close to those provided for in design, but for other structures contractions after 1 yr were less than design values.
