World's tallest building in lightweight concrete
Unusual technique of construction of Australia Square Tower in Sidney, featuring 600 ft high 45 story circular tower block was use of precast concrete permanent external formwork for 20 tapering-fin external columns and downturned and upturned spandrel beams at each floor level; cast in light weight aggregate concrete, precast formwork units incorporate external finish of white quartz chippings on columns and downturned spandrel and coarse dark reconstructed stone on upturned spandrels; precast units were erected and tied back to conventional formwork on inner faces before placing of in situ light weight concrete.
