Sulphur-aggregate concrete
Sulfur in place of cement in concrete with conventional aggregates has proved successful as structural and wearing material in extensive tests made for U S Air Force Weapons Laboratory; compressive strengths of more than 3000 psi are readily obtained with moderately good aggregates; 5000 psi is reached with crushed basalt; sulfur becomes molten at 239 F and less workable at 320 F; it can be readily handled at 285 F, slightly higher than asphalt; sulfur concrete sets as soon as it hardens and is excellent for repair work; it can be melted and reused, and placed in cold weather; studies are being made to improve fire resistance; sulfur as structural cement has long been used in setting anchor bolts and capping concrete cylinders.
