Canada's largest lift span will be in Vancouver
Bridge, 2174 ft long, will consist of eight steel truss spans, of which one is 493-ft lift span, designed to provide clear channel width of 450 ft at 153 ft above high water; north abutment is founded on concrete spread footing; south approach pier is founded on sandstone; four piers are founded on timber piles driven into alluvial gravel of harbor bottom; erectors are using cantilever method in which first truss is erected and following spans are cantilevered from previous one by tieing back top chord with 2×8-in. steel bars.
