Resistance of concrete slabs exposed as bridge decks to scaling caused by deicing agents
Summary of performance of concrete slabs exposed outdoors for periods up to 3 yr; slabs were subjected to average of 47 cycles of freezing of water on surface followed by thawing with deicing agents during each winter; among surface coatings, epoxy, chlorinated rubber, and tar-based sealers gave best results; linseed oil coatings after first winter were not as effective as had been previously reported; calcium chloride accelerator and polysiloxane durability aid were most effective admixtures except for air-entraining admixtures.
