Water wave pressures on seawalls and breakwaters
Studies of water wave pressure indicate that height of design wave depends on characteristics of deepwater wave, wave reflection coefficient of structure, water depth at structure, and bottom slope and depth contours seaward of structure; diagrams for determining wave reflection coefficient, which was found to be function of wave steepness, relative depth of water in front of structure, angle of wave approach to structure, and shape, slope, roughness, and permeability of structure are presented; equations, developed to second order of approximation, for calculating wave pressures on seawalls and breakwaters caused by waves reflected by structure are presented.
