Laminated wood beams reinforced with steel strips
Preliminary results on reinforcing of glue-laminated wood beams are presented and new method of reinforcing beams with mild steel strips is described; mild steel reinforcing was successfully bonded to wood by adhesives, and reinforced beams have behaved as true composite within elastic range; stiffness of beams reinforced on top and bottom surfaces, has been increased 100% and greater; shear deflection varied between 14 and 19% of total deflection.
