Stability of plate girders with symmetrical flanges; different instability modes in girders investigated by Basler and Thuerlimann are described; first, instability in pure bending by web buckling and flange instability is considered, and then behavior under shear, which enables dealing with transverse stiffeners, and end panels in particular; finally, effects of both bending and shear are investigated, and appropriate general interaction formula is established.
