Elastic and plastic behaviour of cased beams
Tests are described which were carried out as part of program aimed at studying behavior of cased beams at ultimate load to develop ultimade load design methods for this type of beam; work is restricted to simply supported beams consisting of mild steel joist encased in concrete T-beam rib with top flange projecting into slab and stirrups provided to enable slab to be connected to encased steel rib up to failure, when interface bond would have broken down; five beams SC1- SC5 were tested; each of beams consists of 6×3 1/2 in. × 11 1/2 lb-ft/ft steel joist encased in rib of T-beam with 24-in. wide by 3-in. thick concrete slab.
