Behaviour of steel beams encased in lightweight aggregate concrete
Review of tests on simply supported and continuously supported beams and beams bolted to stub stanchion; strain distribution, support moments and span moments, deflections, cracking, and load factor are discussed, as well as cracking under shear stress; steel beam shows first yield at tension flange; when ratio of top cover to side cover was unity no shear failures were recorded in tests on single span beams, and steel beam provided adequate shear reinforcement at working load; concrete distributes loading into web of encased beam and acts as stiffening medium at points of concentrated load.
