Laminated decking speeds pier construction
Designed to speed erection and protect deck concreting in winter, laminated timber sub-deck has been successfully used on 90-ft wide pier over deep water and 41-ft wide approach trestle, built for Corps of Engineers, U S Army; untreated timber piles, up to 90 ft long, were driven in 25 pile bents, 10 ft cc, to form pier that carries four lines of railroad track.
