Load distribution in multiple-bolt tension joints
Analytical and experimental investigation is presented, and simplified analytical method is derived that closely predicts experimental results; analysis is applied to butt-type timber tension joints under loading in elastic range; program of tests was designed to study distribution of load among bolts and effect of joint properties on distribution for comparison with theoretical results; joints containing six or more bolts in row are found to have highly uneven distribution of bolt loads.
